Residents across Cheshire West and Chester are being encouraged to attend organised displays as the council, police and fire service prepare for Bonfire Night on 5 November.
Cheshire West and Chester Council says it is working with Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to prevent unauthorised bonfires in public open spaces.
Hazardous waste removed
The council says its StreetCare team has previously removed gas canisters, microwaves, sofas and mattresses from potential bonfire sites. It warns that hazardous waste can create dangers when burned and that poorly managed fires can threaten nearby homes.
Stuart Bingham, the council’s cabinet member for community safety, said the aim was to help people enjoy the occasion while reducing risks to their neighbourhoods.
Choose an organised display
Phil Marke, Winsford Fire Station Manager, encouraged residents to attend organised firework displays and bonfire events, where safety arrangements are in place.
The council has directed residents to Visit Chester & Cheshire’s Bonfire Night listings for information about local events. Check the organiser’s details before travelling.
Fly-tipping can be reported through the council’s online reporting service.
