Chester’s Remembrance Sunday service will take place at the cathedral on Sunday 8 November, beginning at 10.15am, with the Act of Remembrance at 10.50am.

The annual parade and ceremonies will involve Chester Cathedral and the city’s war memorial, bringing together veterans, civic representatives, uniformed organisations and residents.

Armistice Day on 11 November

A separate Armistice Day service will be held at Chester Cathedral on Wednesday 11 November, starting at 10.50am, according to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The council is encouraging residents across the borough to support remembrance events organised by local councils, churches, veterans’ organisations and community groups.

City-centre road closures

The council says closures affecting Northgate Street, St Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street, Foregate Street, St John Street, Bridge Street and Watergate Street will run from 4.30pm on Saturday 7 November until 1.30pm on Sunday 8 November.

Delivery access is due to be permitted from 7am to 8.30am on the Sunday. Additional closures on Northgate Street and Princess Street are listed from 10am until noon, with parking restrictions from 5am to 1pm. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Residents should allow time for the arrangements and follow instructions from event organisers. The council’s Remembrance Sunday webpage lists the wider borough’s events.

Lord Mayor of Chester Councillor Margaret Parker said the services provide an opportunity for residents to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed for their freedoms.
